The curved resin band is starting crack and will break on me any day now.

I made the mistake recently of replacing a sturdy Casio (which lasted 17 years) with a Timex Ironman. The Timex lasted only 3 months. So I picked up another Casio. They’re nice because their plus/minus degree of accuracy ADVANCES one second, not SUBTRACTING like the Timex per 24 hours. I like the display on this Casio. Unfortunately it includes some features I find useless and it’s incovenient pressing the button over and over again cycling to find the mode you want. Too bad you can’t override what you won’t use. You have to expose it to the sun as it’s solar-powered, and the backlight barely stays on long enough to glance at it. So, it’s not the best, but the display looks nice and so far appears more dependable than the aforementioned Timex.

I wanted a countdown timer that you could program in intervals of seconds, starting at zero. but this watch starts at one minute and goes in increments of minutes. So, you can count down one , or two, or three, etc minutes. This is fine and this feature works well. The alarm is loud and clear and there is even a snooze feature. After stumbling with suction cups, the friction mount did the job. It fits on top of your dash and is easily portable if you want to bring it inside or just move it to the floor of your vehicle. If you don’t want it to be visible on the dash when not in use a regular size baseball cap will cover it nicely. There is a little slippage on the some dashboards over time but not serious and nothing that can’t be adjusted in less than a minute.

This one is with me everyday and no noisy clicking. Nice to have the 7 day memory to help keep on track too. This pedometer has a nice sturdy clip to keep it in place that I personally have not had a problem with. I’m not a large person (130 lbs), but if what I’m wearing doesn’t allow the clip, you can put this in your pocket and it keeps track of your steps as well. As far as accuracy, I really haven’t made the effort to do a scientific study on it, but it seems to be fairly accurate.

I was raised in the South and my grandparents and all of their siblings had maids in their homes. Even as a child, I questioned why “the help” had their own bathrooms out in the garage and why they had to eat in the kitchen (I would eat in there with them) so I related to this story. I felt sadness for the way other human beings were treated, joy at every little victory they had, hope that the future was changing with their stories and I didn’t want the book to end. I couldn’t wait to get off work to read some more and found myself thinking about the characters throughout the day. Aibileen, Minny & Skeeter were wonderful characters and we have all know a Hilly!

Woven throughout the book are the individual stories of the maids and how different their lives are away from the white people they serve. We learn their hopes and dreams, how they feel about their church and their neighbors, how they share with each other what the families they work for are really like when no one else is there.

Kathryn Stockett’s first novel is a joy to read! I would recommend this book to everyone.

I thought it would be too big when I got it, but have been wearing it for nearly a month now and don’t even notice it’s there. Doesn’t make a clicking sounds like many pedometers. I’ve recommended to friends and would definitely buy again!
