I went back and forth about whether to buy the K7 for a long time because I already own the K20D. My biggest gripe about the K20D is the slow autofocus which too easily fails at low light levels. The promise of a better autofocus system led me to buy the K7. I’ve had it for just a few hours and have found that the autofocus is indeed much superior to the K20D – nearly instantaneous in most cases. It works at low light levels, too. The other thing that one notices early on is the superior resolution of the LCD monitor over the K20D. On these two points alone, I’m happy with the purchase. Now I get to play for a few days testing out the other new features and improvements that other reviewers and previewers have talked about.

In video mode you can use the zoom (this is a plus I looked at many other cameras not capable of doing this) the camera is real easy to use and has nice features. I have been looking for an inexpensive digital camera for my college-bound son. The most important attribute was the ability to recharge the battery will it is still in the camera. Build quality is very high, the LCD looks great. Video I find a little clumsy, definitely nothing great in how it works, but it’s there and if you are careful you could take some nice footage. All in all a solid camera. Fun to go out in a storm and not worry about it too.

This camera is great. The quality for the price is everything I wanted. I do a lot of hiking, and nature macro shots, so I don’t want a lot of bulk if I can help it. This camera is fast, and responsive. The burst mode priority setting can be reached by a few clicks of the dial. While the panoramic mode has a little trouble in low light settings (indoors with low lighting) it does an amazing job with scenic daytime shots. The smile detector is fun (though perhaps not useful for nature shots). The camera’s in-menu explanations of different settings make it easy to learn what each function does. Lastly the GPS stamp does wonders to recording locations data of my shots, but it tends to be off by something like 10-50 feet. It does depend on how long the camera has been on before you start taking shots, since I keep mine off anytime I am not actively shooting it tends to be inaccurate. For my purposes that degree of deviation does not matter.

I’ve been using the a33 for about a week now, rigorously testing all aspects of the camera as well as pushing the new tech (SLT) to its limits in both video and high-speed shooting. I consider myself a prosumer, currently using Canon 7D. In fact, I’ve been using canon for the past 10 years. With the recent hype about large sensor video functionality found on almost all new releases, I found myself craving for a more functional AF in DSLRs. Because I’m no pro videographer, manual focusing (follow focusing) is terribly difficult for me, especially for high speed, erratic subjects like my kids running around the backyard. And contrast AF found on most DSLRs is a joke. Then came the SLT technology. A fixed mirror that feeds AF data constantly to dedicated AF sensor full-time, even when shooting video. For the price comparable with other entry-level DSLR’s, it sounded like a worthy investment. And being able to shoot 7fps (10fps for a55) with that constant phase-detection AF on a body that sells for 650 – certainly a head-turner if you’ve been following the DSLR trends the past couple of years.

I am a Sony man through and through and have successfully guided most of my family towards their cameras as well! My parents recently purchased a DSC W220 and it takes such crystal clear pics, I was amazed at the detail. After seeing this, I decided to upgrade from my 10mp to this guy at 14mp. I didn’t have it long enough to really check everything out, all I know is that the picture quality was horrible! That crystal clear wow factor that I had anticipated was beaten back into the pipe dream it came from… the picture quality was better outdoors (high light), but still not acceptable! After three days of wasted vacation photos, I called to get my return authorization number! The only real difference that I can come up with (that would lead to the picture quality being so much worse than the 220) was the fact that this model does NOT have the Carl Zeiss lens??? Who knows, I just know that this is no where near the camera I was hoping for! DO NOT BUY!

The 14.1MP sensor seems to be high quality, so long as you’re using the camera in well and evenly lit conditions. Where the camera struggles somewhat is low light (high ISO), or when there is substantial dynamic range (difference between brightest and darkest parts of an image). Under good conditions – bright and evenly lit – the sensor provides excellent detail, certainly way more than adequate for email, web sites or prints up to maybe A3 (13×19 inch) size. Still, under more challenging lighting, the Sony may be a bit disappointing…where a large DSLR can capture details in highlights and shadow, the Sony tends to blow out the highlights or will transform shadows into a sea of black. Again, this is really normal for cameras with small image sensors – the Sony’s performance is very good indeed considering the small form factor and product price point.

So when I at long last decided to buy a DSLR, I didn’t have any steel affiliations or cognition . I did a lot of research about DSLRs, read reviews and looked at various theoretical accounts public presentations and features. Finally I chose the Pentax K200D and I ‘m quenched with my decisiveness. Here are some of the reasons I selected this model from Pentax over other’s that I ‘ve translated about :.
